UniGe Research Activities

The Marine Protection Area of Capo Mortola adheres to the network of Marine Protected Areas of Liguria and in this context is the subject of two monitoring activities that were carried out in 2010 and are partly ongoing. One is dedicated to monitoring the impact of pleasure boating and in particular the anchoring of boats of various sizes that stop in the waters. The other is aimed at evaluating the reserve effect on fish fauna; it has highlighted the importance of the shallows and the seabed as a whole for marine biodiversity.

Authorizations for research activities

Within the ATM, the conduct of scientific research in the field is subject to prior authorization by the Management Body. In the event of any sampling of materials and/or organisms, the authorization will entail the burden of a fee.

The authorization is issued upon presentation of a program that indicates the subjects, times and methods of the research and specifies the nature of the operations to be carried out in the field and any precautions that are intended to be observed.

The managing body may express a refusal on the basis of explicit and declared reasons of environmental protection or may, for the same reasons, subordinate the authorization to a modification of the program and to the deposit of a security sum that guarantees compliance with the precautions and any necessary restoration actions.

The interested party will provide the Management Body with a copy of the research results for each of the different forms created by it (reports, photographs, recordings, publications, etc.) on paper and electronic media.

The products and results of the research promoted and financed by the Management Body are its exclusive property, except for the possibility for the authors to disseminate the results
